Keller Becomes Available

U.S. international 'keeper Kasey Keller will be free to leave German side Borussia Monchengladbach when his contract ends this summer, according to the team's technical director Christian Ziege.

The club will be relegated at season's end and there was some doubt as to whether Keller would even want to return to play in Germany's second division. "It came as something of a surprise when he indicated that he was prepared to stay," said Ziege. "We had to assume he would no longer be available if we were relegated and so we decided to make the break in goal as well, not least because of the age issue."

Keller is hoping to recover from a muscle tear in his right leg in time to play in his club's last game - but even before he's healed, many people will be debating Keller's next stop. A move to Real Salt Lake would be logical - both for club and player - RSL is hurting for a solid keeper and Keller wants to be close to his homes in the Pacific Northwest.
