Toronto Will Not Fight Dichio's Red

Toronto FC head coach Mo Johnston will not appeal the red card given to Danny Dichio during Saturday's win over Chicago.

Dichio, who scored the first goal in Toronto FC history minutes before being the first TFC player sent off, was red-carded for his part in a skirmish involving Fire keeper Matt Pickens and midfielder Diego Gutierrez shortly before halftime. TV replays showed Dichio may have been trying to bite an opposing player during the melee.

With the defending MLS champion Houston Dynamo coming to town tomorrow, Johnston has accepted that he will be without the Scottish power forward. "No one ever wins an appeal on a red card," Johnston told the Toronto Sun.

When asked about Dichio's aggressive style of play, Johnston said: "Danny plays his best when he plays physical. I'm certainly not going to ask him to stop playing that way."

Toronto FC host the Houston Dynamo tomorrow at 7 p.m. ET. Four days later, D.C. United rolls into town for a Saturday afternoon match at 3:30 p.m. ET.

Dichio is just a soccer hooligan with a Toronto jersey

more the reason why we love him! We want the opposition to fear: The Red Devils!

Hate to break it to you, but no one fears Toronto, and praising a dirty player is no starting point either.

I don't know about tonight's match, but Saturday's is likely to be ug-ly. The book on how to play DC these past three years or so was written by Chicago, and it goes something like this: be very, very physical with DC's skill players. Very physical. Considering TFC pulled a Chicago on Chicago this past Saturday, I'd expect we'll see a whole lotta physical play on the 19th.

I can definitely see Facundo Erpen getting sent off in this one. That is, if he sees any playing time...
