Galaxy Hold Off Dallas

The Los Angeles Galaxy advanced to the semifinals of SuperLiga 2007 on Tuesday evening after fending off a furious comeback from FC Dallas. Jumping out to a quick 4-0 lead just 18 minutes into the game, the porous Galaxy defense nearly did them in, allowing four goals after the half, including two in extra time. But second half goals from Landon Donovan and Carlos Pavon helped the Galaxy avoid further embarassment and advance to the semifinals.

It was the wildest game of the year and tied an MLS record for total goals in a game (11). Donovan also had three assists and earned a yellow card for making a throat-slashing gesture to the Dallas crowd while shouting "GAME OVER" after scoring the Galaxy's 5th goal of the night.
